That's part of it's evil... it looks fine. Closer inspection reveals that the driveway and what I'll call (for want of a better word) the gate don't actually line up. You have to do a kind of zigzag manouver to get around the deceptively obstructive tree on the right hand side whilst avoiding the stealthy drainpipe on the side of the house.
You'd expect the bollard on the side of the drive to be a problem, but it turns out that it's the mangy tree next to it which is the problem. It has a protruding branch at wing mirror height. So you have to stay clear of that, which because of the positioning of the kerb and where people tend to park in front of our house, you end up with the back end pointing slightly towards the front door.
You then have to swing around so you're aiming at the driveway down the side of the house, and you have to do it quickly enough to be far enough out to get the other wing mirror past the house and the drainpipe but slowly enough that you don't end up encountering the foliage between the two at the front.
Then you need to straighten up enough that you end up on our driveway and not the neighbours, especially if there's a car parked in their drive. Doubly so if it's a Lotus Elan (as it sometimes is).
I'm getting better at it each time I try, but it usually takes me a couple of goes to get it right.
