So... Where to begin.
Let's try Thursday, as I last posted on Wednesday. So...
Thursday
I didn't go to work on Thursday on account of still being ill. I wasn't as bad as I had been on Wednesday, but I wasn't really in a good state either. At least, not at the start of the day. I started out in as bad a state as I had been on Tuesday, but thanks to rest, relaxation, medication and syrupy or milky drinks I improved fairly rapidly. I even had a functioning (if unreliable and croaky) voice by the afternoon.
izzy_stradlin arrived back from her field trip on Thursday afternoon, which helped perk me up somewhat as she generally has that kind of effect on me. I'm not entirely sure what we did for the rest of the evening, but it didn't involve going to the pub, as despite a lifted mood I was still plagued and going to a smokey pub where I'd have to speak loudly to be heard would probably not have been clever.
Friday
Specifics about Friday are few and far between. I spent the day with
izzy_stradlin, and amongst other an assortment of other things we played quite a bit of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 on the X-Box. Good game. I'm pretty sure we ate a couple of meals as well, but again I'm lacking in details.
In the evening we joined a vast mob of folks at the Cinema to watch Shaun of the Dead. Mighty film. Didn't spot
urizen, might have seen
cryx (but wasn't even remotely sure). I'm pretty sure I spotted at least one person I vaguely know in the form of
dreamingchristi. But regardless of the "Oh Look! It's [...]!" factor the film is damned fine and is to be recommended to all and sundry. Very funny, but it has guts and gore, so not for the immensely squeamish unless you have somebody you trust to tell you when the grim bits are over (I'm thinking particularly of the pub window)...
Saturday
Again I spent saturday with
izzy_stradlin (you may notice something of a theme emerging here), although in this case it was more unusual. A few days earlier I had realised that although she had to go back home, I had no plans beyond relaxing for the rest of the easter long weekend. The resulting bizarre idea was that I should go back with
izzy_stradlin to the far edge of Essex. So I did. Upon arrival I once again met her folks, who as far as I can tell are essentially human. We lounged around, chatted and stuff. Later on her twin sister appeared, and I can report that she is also essentially human, albeit in a strange, hyperactive, scatty kind of way.
After a while we retreated and I had a go at connecting
izzy_stradlin's laptop up to a TV. Despite the laptop having a TV out, the interface for controlling it is so convoluted that I eventually gave up, and we watched the remainder of Assignment 5 of Sapphire and Steel on her laptop screen, which actually worked out okay as it's a decent quality screen.
Sunday
On Sunday
izzy_stradlin and her mother and sibling went off to church, it being Easter Sunday and all. When she got back, we lounged around listening to all kinds of music before being called down for lunch. At lunch, despite warnings, I was not thoroughly interrogated by the visiting grandmother, who is apparently well known for such things. She asked a few polite questions (some in quick succession, but not enough to qualify as an interrogation), but for the most part we were too busy eating!
After lunch we wandered off for a walk along the seafront and talked of many interesting things. Got back to the house feeling happy and refreshed by the sea air, at which point we proceeded to lounge around some more. Eventually we started watching the final assignment of Sapphire and Steel. With a short break to gather food in the evening we finished watching and were both dumbfounded by the harshness of the ending! So much so that we needed to watch something else just to avoid getting stuck that way... So we watched Sharpe's Rifles as well...
Monday
We had planned to go into Colchester on Monday morning, but my abject failure to get out of bed put paid to that idea. So instead we stayed in and watched yet more DVDs, turning Sunday night's one off Sharpe viewing into something of a Sharpe marathon. After this, I headed back home. It took a while, as I caught one of those magic trains that turns into a bus for part of the journey. Still, I made it home in the end. When I got there, I crashed for a while before getting up again to eat chinese and watch Snatch, then went back to bed again.
