Damned academics... they keep breaking my websites!
I build them a website, and then, because we have to, we give them access to it so that they can update the content. Then, they get me to make extensive changes to the design & structure, which I do. I then E-mail all concerned, asking them to download a new copy for themselves (we don't let them work direct on the server... we'd like to have a server left, and these people can destroy anything...). At this point, one of two things happens:
These are the people responsible for educating the intellectual cream of the country. I weep for the future.

At this point, one of two things happens:
- They don't download a new copy, ignoring my e-mail entirely. Then about a fortnight later, when they've forgotten they were meant to do something, they edit a local copy of the file and upload it. As a result, they stick a modified version of a file from the old design & structure into the middle of the new design and structure. They then phone to complain that something is broken.
- They decide that they know what they're doing, ignore the detailed instructions for downloading a new local copy and accidentally send files the wrong way, overwriting swathes of the live site with an old copy of itself.
These are the people responsible for educating the intellectual cream of the country. I weep for the future.
