So... Odd Film
31 July 2005 13:06So, having been reminded about this film by a random recommendation, I picked up Immortal (AKA Immortal: Ad Vitam) from playusa.com and watched it last night.
Strange, strange film.
It's Part live action, part CGI, part CGI/Live mix. The CGI was split neatly into either very realistic or very "computer game cut-scene". The cut-scene bits were a little jarring at first, but I got used to it and it didn't detract from the film too much. The realistic CGI is really rather good, though, and I like a lot of the design work in there.
The film is french, but filmed in English. The same cast (apparently) then re-dubbed it into french for the french release. Odd.
Then there's the story, which is where the weirdness really comes in. I'm not going to go into any real detail, but it's set in New York in the future and it includes the following:
A floating pyramid,
Aliens,
Mutants,
Cable/flying cars,
Government and corporate conspiracy,
Egyptian Gods.
I liked it. It was seriously weird, but I liked it.
