There's an ars technica article out there explaining the current sprawling chaos in the web design world. In amidst the text of page 2 lives this rather fantastic image (warning - bad language in the text). It's not 100% accurate for me (being a CSS bod generally, I spend less time on the red bit and more time on the pale blue, purple and yellow bits), but it gets the general idea across.
The article's pretty good at explaining whats up, although it does kind of skirt many implications of the bad decision... It explains the good sides (because they're not always obvious) but doesn't dwell on the bad sides because the target audience already know them.
