Bloggy things...

So... would folks out there be interested in writing for or participating in some kind of collaboratory blog website thing?

I've got an idea that revolves areound a small group of people writing articles on disparate topics that interest them. Or putting up artwork or photography. Or putting up short fiction, even. I'm not leaning towards an open "anyone can submit stuff" site, but a site where a few trusted people can submit items on topics that interest them. I might be open to other people outside of that group submitting articles, but they'd go via that core group for editorial purposes.

People would be able to register and leave comments, which would ideally be moderated. If I can work out how, then they'd be able to sign in with openID. Most likely, comments would be open for a week or two after an item was posted, and then they'd be closed. The originator of an item would be expected to follow those comments for a while, at least checking once in that week and responding to some questions if there are any.

Topics that I, personally, would probably write about: Web Design, SF, Design in general, Theatre related stuff, music & film, possibly even human behaviour.

If I were to create such a site, would you be interested in writing / creating for it?

Quite possibly!

Would depend on how much commitment would be required, but I think it would be a good discipline and akin to having a weekly newspaper column ... and different from personal blogging in that it would be designed for an audience and less "stream of consciousness" and more "edited" :-)

That's exactly why I want to start such a site! I'm mainly interested in finding people who want to do that kind of thing because:
a) I don't think I'd do it enough to drive a reasonable site - it'd become stale.
b) I think it'll actually make it a better site if it has several different voices on it.

Are you serious about the short fiction suggestion?

Yup. This is all early days thinking at the moment, but yes... Right now I'm mostly interested in finding out if there'd be a enough of a turnover and variety of stuff to make this work.

I've been fiddling with short stories as ways to improve my writing ever since arriving here. But I've just moved away from my local creative writing group, and having an incentive to keep me writing would be good.

Of course my writing might not meet your requirements. It didn't meet the requirements of the last place I sent it, for example.

(That was Dublin's Stinging Fly (http://www.stingingfly.org/) literary magazine, as it happens.)

yes, that would be very interesting.

I'm not much of a writer overall, but I'd be willing to read and comment and possibly add something if I came up with it!

Cool - readers would be needed too!

myself and darklittlefox would be interested in submitting stuff.
