There will be TMI elements in this post. Those of you who know my attitude to illness will be used to this, but there's new folks out there so I thought I'd better put a warning up front. Really, if you get squicked out by frank tales of erroneous bodily functions, just stop now.
On Thursday, I was knackered as I hadn't slept well. I was feeling increasingly rough through the afternoon, and through rehearsal in the evening. I thought it was just because I was tired.
Turned out to be food poisoning.
Friday was spent working from home, struggling with occasional stomach cramps and sudden, epic moments of explosive diarrhoea.
Saturday, I felt rough in the morning, but by lunch I didn't feel too bad... So I went to help clean the stage lights up at the hall [*1]. Unfortunately, after four hours of that, things started up again with even more vigour than they had previously.
Sunday I woke up feeling perfectly fine, so went to help out at the semi-regular Sunday set build. I continued to feel fine after that for almost two hours. After that time I was very glad to be in immediate vicinity of appropriate plumbing, as I got roughly 30 seconds warning of what was about to happen. Unfortunately, such bouts on sunday were somewhat more frequent, resulting in my spending more time out of my bed than in it last night.
This morning didn't exactly begin well either, so I called in sick and nipped out to the doctors. Now I have codeine, so I suspect all will be well.
If I'm still "troubled" by wednesday, I've got to go back with a sample. Which brings me to something that really bugs me. When you've just told the doctor exactly how... fluid... the situation is, and they ask for a sample... they hand you a small pot with a scoop fixed in the lid. With a one and a half inch long handle and a spoon end about a centimetre across, if that. That's never going to end well.
So, here's hoping that I'm all sorted out before wednesday. The codeine means that I'll be functioning pretty much as normal in the meantime, at least.
[*1 - They were covered in sawdust from when the floor of the hall was sanded down, which meant that if they were used then a bad smell would have been inevitable, blown bulbs and cooked on grime would have been likely, and fire would certainly have been a possibility.]
