Basically, my back/shoulder pains are due (essentially) to the muscles between my right shoulderblade and my spine being somewhat buggered. Physio's been suggested, and I'll be looking into it... but the main thing I need to do is to look at my home desk setup very closely - I'd given it a basic ergonomic rundown and found it "good enough", but it looks like I'm going to have to go into a bit more detail. I gave it a going over with a tape measure this morning and I think there are two things that I'll try first:
1) Buy some risers to lift the desk by about an inch. Or more likely, buy some blocks of wood and cut channels to fit, making them into risers.
2) Buy a lumbar support cushion for my desk.
I'm also going to have a serious go at starting to go swimming again - this'll change the range of movements my shoulder makes, and so will help the muscles sort themselves out a bit.
To address another issue (that of my either feeling like crap in the mornings or waking up at 4.30am, when the sky starts to lighten), I think I'm going to try buying a daylight alarm clock. With luck, that'll help me feel more refreshed, and thus more inclined to exercise and the like.
