I'm considering setting myself a goal that might seem like a bit of an odd one to some folks, as it seems like something I should just be able to do. I want to be able to run again.

Not as in jogging or competitive sprinting or anything like that, but just to be able to break into a run and keep going for a bit. This might seem trivial, as I'm not quite as startlingly unfit as I might appear at first glance. I do occasionally break into a run from time to time for very short periods, but I tend to avoid it due to to my messed up feet and slightly duff knees (which are a direct result of my messed up feet). When I was a kid, I used to get extra insoles for my shoes that helped prevent me from doing further damage to my tendons and also improved my normal walking gait. They helped a bit, but I already got a lot of exercise by other means - now, as an adult, I don't get that. Also, as an adult, I find that physical exercise is often scuppered by my feet, ankles or knees giving out - all of which I *know* is at least partially down to my gait.

So that's going to be my first step. Track down a podiatrist to get my feet and my walking gait looked at, and start working on fixing my gait and posture in general. Once I've done that, my exercise options suddenly shift from a lot of things I can't do to merely being a lot of things I don't want to do... which I'm better at getting past.

The long term goal is to get myself to state where I have a wider variety of exercise options available to me.

You can also go to a running shop who will measure your running style and find you shoes that match it (whether something needs correcting or not)!

If I can go from dying when running 20 yards to a bus stop to now being able to run up to a half marathon distance (well that's the furthest I have tried so far), anyone can :D
