The Church - El Momento Descuidado
This, as far as can tell, is an "unplugged" album. It's pretty decent, but I prefer the electric versions of the songs for the most part. I mostly own this because it was the only way that (at the time) I could legitimately pay for the songs.
This is a bit of an odd one, as songs I really like the originals of leave me cold when performed unplugged. "Metropolis" for a start. It's a great song, but the accoustic version just seems slow and lacking energy. However, "Unguarded Moment" still works... which is always good because it's a fantastic song.
Oddly enough, songs other than my favourites of theirs work pretty well unplugged. I like "0408" more than I remembered, and "Chromium" stands up pretty well.
Incidentally, I think the fact that "Under The Milky Way" was left off the Donnie Darko soundtrack was verging on criminal. It's an awesome song (it's even pretty decent unplugged), and deserves the extra airplay that would have gained it. Unfortunately, the version on here just isn't as strong.
I think my overall opinion is "pretty good unplugged album, but I'd rather they just plugged back in". I ended up skipping through a couple of songs for exactly that reason.
Verdict: To go - just not as keen on them as an accoustic band.
I think I might leave it there for now and find something else to do for a bit. This spot on the sofa is starting to gain a human shaped indentation, and that's probably not a good sign!
