First, A REMINDER: Unknown Armies tonight.
Secondly, it looks like I'll be running the MIGHTY fantasy thing next. So now I need people to express interest and consider character ideas. Each character will be a recently released journeyman of some kind - each character will have a living master that you at least respect, even if you don't actually like them much. I'm expecting quite a heavy quota of magic users in the party - possibly all of them, in fact.
For this to work, though, I'll need to explain a bit about how magic works in the game. All magic is based off challenge. If you want to affect something physically, you need to successfully do something physical. If you want to affect somebody's knowledge you must successfully apply your own. If
Tests are based off skills appropriate to what you're trying to do. For instance, if you work with nature and want to cause the earth to shake, knocking one hundred foes arrayed against you from their feet, you might bind a pebble to the earth using some kind of natural lore. Then they might place the stone on the floor in front of them them and strike it so hard that it shatters. If it shatters, the earth shakes. If it doesn't, the earth stays put.
If you're a smith and want a blade to drain blood from it's victims you might need to successfully treat the steel in a way that contains blood without being brittle or dull, which would require a successful metallurgy roll.
If you're an illusionist and want to create an illusion you might need to prepare the audience in some way, making them ready to believe it before they see it, perhaps with some form of subterfuge or storytelling.
If you're a mighty heroic fighter then you've probably got a bit of magic, perhaps in the form of a weapon that, if swung with enough force, will sunder an opposing force rather than just striking one man.
A Paladin might also, if their prayers are adequate, may be able to resist damage that would normally crush a castle wall...
I'll try to come up with some pregens or suggestions if needed. but if anybody else has ideas, feel free to suggest them. I'm trying to keep it open, though. Basically, each character will have one field in which they are massively beyond human limitations - either through their own magic or through items they possess.
